1996 Ford Bronco 4x4-5.0-5 Speed-AC-79K Miles

1996 Ford Bronco – A Manual-Shifted Mountain Cruiser with Classic Character

The 1996 Ford Bronco marked the end of an era. This was the final production year of the full-size Bronco, a beloved SUV known for its off-road chops, rugged styling, and iconic removable hardtop. By this point, the Bronco had earned its place in American culture—serving as a trusty family hauler, a backwoods explorer, and a symbol of unfiltered utility. In its swan-song year, Ford gave enthusiasts a range of powertrains and trim levels to choose from before the Bronco line went into hibernation until its rebirth in 2021.

This particular 1996 example, finished in a striking Vermillion Red and Beige two-tone, represents a rare and engaging configuration. Under the hood, it retains its original 5.0L EFI V8 engine—mated to the sought-after M5OD 5-speed manual transmission. This powertrain combination provides not only authenticity but an increasingly rare manual driving experience in a full-size 4x4 SUV. According to the Marti Report and matching engine codes (F1SE with a 6C2 date stamp), the drivetrain remains factory-correct, and the rear end houses the solid and dependable Ford 8.8” differential.

With just 79,519 actual miles, this Bronco has lived a remarkably well-preserved life. Originally sold and registered in Oregon, its history is refreshingly transparent: two careful owners, a clean CarFax, and no accidents or damage ever reported. The first owner kept it for over two decades, logging less than 1,600 miles annually, while the second added more consistent use yet maintained the vehicle meticulously. Seven documented service records cover regular oil changes, drivetrain inspections, and even an axle seal replacement in its later years.

Inside, the Medium Mocha interior remains original and true to its roots, complete with a split bench seat, one-piece rubber floor mat, manual windows and locks, and a Ford AM/FM radio that still powers up and plays. Even the factory A/C system blows cold. The absence of modern distractions only enhances the vintage charm. Functionally, everything from the heater and cruise control to the electric rear window and factory 4x4 with manual locking hubs works properly, with minor quirks like one non-functional blinker flasher noted during inspection.

The exterior received a thoughtful refresh in its original paint code (74), now presented as a Red and Beige two-tone that complements the SUV’s classic lines. The repaint shows well, especially paired with the original 15” 10-hole wheels wrapped in beefy 31x10.50 Hercules TerraTrac tires (dated 2019). An aftermarket grille guard adds a touch of rugged personality, while factory features like the stock exhaust system and sway bar remain intact. Underneath, the chassis is described as very solid with only minor aging in the suspension bushings—an excellent sign of long-term care.

Overall, this Bronco is far more than just a nostalgic icon. With its rare manual gearbox, low miles, clean history, and turn-key condition, it represents one of the last true full-size SUVs from a golden era of utility vehicles—ready to be enjoyed on pavement or trail for years to come.
