1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 / 350 / Automatic / AC

The 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 stands as an iconic representation of late 1970s American muscle, embodying both performance and style. The Z28 package, revived in 1977 following a brief hiatus, helped the Camaro reclaim its status as a formidable performer amidst tightening emissions and fuel economy regulations. The 1978 model brought subtle but effective updates, including revised front and rear styling and new graphics that cemented its aggressive demeanor. With its blend of muscle car heritage and emerging technology, the Z28 became a sought-after choice for enthusiasts seeking raw power and street presence.

This particular 1978 Camaro Z28, finished in its original "Code 11" White, exudes classic charm. The car has been repainted, maintaining a fresh and vibrant appearance, complemented by the timeless Z28 package and factory decals. The odometer reads 85,351 miles, which are believed to be original, adding an air of authenticity to its story. Under the hood lies a robust 350 V8 engine, though not the original, paired with a smooth-shifting TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine bay is clean and retains a largely stock appearance, enhanced by an Edelbrock carburetor for improved performance.

The Z28 rides on classic 15-inch Z28 wheels wrapped in 225/70 tires from 2021, offering a period-correct look with modern reliability. Power steering and power front disc brakes ensure a comfortable and controlled driving experience, whether cruising through town or carving up back roads. The factory air conditioning system has been converted to R134A, delivering cold air for added comfort on hot summer days.

Inside, the Camaro features a well-kept "Code 19R/A51" black bucket seat interior with a center console and floor shifter. Notable features include a tilt steering column, intermittent wipers, manual windows and door locks, and a tachometer. While the dash clock is inoperative, the remainder of the dash and gauge cluster shows well, with only minor aging visible. The newer cloth headliner and sun visors are in excellent condition, contributing to the overall clean and inviting cabin.

The undercarriage and suspension components show normal aging for a classic car, with the frame, floor pans, and trunk extensions retaining much of their originality. The passenger side toe board and floor pan have had clean, well-executed repairs, highlighting the vehicle's solid foundation. The Camaro also features front and rear sway bars, enhancing stability and handling—a testament to the Z28's performance-oriented design.

This Camaro is more than just a pretty face. It’s a good driving car, reported to cruise comfortably at 65 mph. The dual exhaust system with aftermarket mufflers provides a satisfying rumble, amplifying the car’s muscle car pedigree. With factory options like bucket seats, a rear spoiler, and the Z28 graphics package, this Camaro embodies everything enthusiasts love about this generation of Chevrolet performance cars.
