One Owner 1988 Ford Mustang GT / 5.0 / 5 Speed / AC / 15K Miles

1988 Ford Mustang GT – A One-Owner Time Capsule with Just 15K Miles

The 1988 Ford Mustang GT marked the near-peak of Fox Body refinement, standing as a shining example of 1980s American muscle reborn for a new generation. With its distinctive aerodynamic styling, signature fog lights, and iconic hatchback design, the GT variant delivered both performance and road presence. In this era, the Mustang GT was more than a muscle car—it was a youth icon, blending performance, affordability, and daily usability in one of the most recognizable silhouettes on American roads.

This particular Mustang GT, built in June 1988 at Ford’s Dearborn assembly plant, is nothing short of exceptional. It is a true one-owner survivor with just 15,585 original miles, retaining its numbers-matching 5.0L EFI High Output V8paired with a T5 5-speed manual transmission. Ordered through the Dallas District Sales Office and originally sold by Westway Ford in Irving, Texas, this car has spent its entire life in the Lone Star State, meticulously maintained and garage-kept, as confirmed by its clean CarFax and extensive registration records spanning decades.

The car still wears its factory-applied Oxford White paint (code 9L) with the signature Titanium lower accent, a rare and desirable combo found on just 2,812 units that year. Every panel retains its original VIN tags, and the paint finish shows beautifully, with showroom-quality factory lights, quarter glass, and Turbine wheels—which still include the original tires alongside a new set of 225/60/R15s from 2024.

Inside, the cabin is dressed in Medium Grey cloth articulated sport seats (code PG) and appears nearly untouched, as if preserved in time. Everything from the dash to the door panels presents in exceptional condition. The interior boasts features well ahead of its time, including power windows and locks, tilt steering, cruise control, premium sound system, and even a map light (noted as inop but present). The factory AM/FM/Cassette stereo plays loud and clear, preserving the analog soul of the late '80s.

Mechanically, this GT is bone stock and impressively preserved. Under the hood, the E7TE-coded 5.0 V8 remains in original configuration with OE headers, stock H-pipe, factory catalytic converters, and factory mufflers, all in excellent condition. The undercarriage is equally pristine—still showing factory stickers, markings, and the kind of preservation that’s nearly impossible to replicate. It rides on a correct 8.8" Traction-Lok rear axle with 2.73 gears, perfect for smooth cruising and highway efficiency.

Everything works as it should, from the cold-blowing A/C to the power steering and brakes, and all factory gauges and lights were verified operational at check-in. Notable under-hood details include an untouched fan shroud, intact AC insulation, and overall mechanicals that reflect the car’s low-mileage life. Even the fog lights, often missing or replaced on these models, remain factory and in excellent shape.

With its Marti Report, original window sticker, miscellaneous receipts, and ownership history all intact, this Mustang GT isn’t just a collector car—it’s a time capsule. It’s a vivid reminder of what made the Fox Body Mustang a legend in its day and a sought-after classic now.
