1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Convertible – Tuned Port Legacy with 65K Miles

In the golden era of American performance coupes, few names carried as much street cred as the Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z. Introduced in 1985 to celebrate Chevrolet’s sponsorship of the International Race of Champions, the IROC-Z was more than a trim package—it was a bold statement of '80s muscle reborn. By 1988, the IROC-Z had fully embraced fuel injection and cutting-edge suspension tweaks, and convertibles made a thrilling return after a long hiatus, catering to drivers who wanted both power and the joy of open-air cruising.

This particular 1988 IROC-Z Convertible is a time capsule with just 65,892 actual miles, dressed in its original Bright White (WA8554) paint and riding on 15-inch OEM IROC wheels wrapped in Cooper Cobra radials from 2020. It proudly features the numbers-matching 5.0L Tuned Port Injection (TPI) V8, a coveted engine that delivered smooth, responsive performance while balancing reliability and modern (for the time) fuel management. Paired with a 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission, this Camaro offers the ideal mix of relaxed highway cruising and muscular acceleration.

The engine bay is a showcase of originality, maintaining its stock manifolds, crossover, catalytic converter, and a stock-style aftermarket muffler with dual tailpipes. Power steering and power-assisted front disc brakes make handling intuitive, while a front and rear sway bar setup reinforces its IROC-tuned suspension, making it as confident in the corners as it is on the boulevard.

The interior is finished in its original gray cloth (82I), a signature of the era, complete with bucket seats, a center console, floor shifter, and a tilt steering column. The factory tachometer and Delco AM/FM cassette radio add to its period charm, alongside power features that include windows, locks, mirrors, and even a power driver’s seat. The electric trunk release and black convertible top are also power-operated, reinforcing this IROC’s identity as a premium offering.

Mechanically, it has been pampered throughout its life, as supported by a clean CARFAX with no accidents or damage reported. Regular registrations in Connecticut and Florida show its careful custodianship across the decades. A recent inspection confirms it is running strong, with cold-blowing R134A-converted air conditioning, a well-maintained cooling and fuel system, and strong charging performance at 14.3 volts.

Underneath, the chassis is solid and impressively preserved, maintaining a very stock and original look. Even the engine casting number (14093627) aligns with its original specifications. Though the car does display light age-related wear, the overall impression is one of authenticity and pride of ownership—a Camaro that has lived its life well and wears its mileage with grace.

From its genuine power top to its stock appearance and period-correct sound system, this 1988 Camaro IROC Convertible is an emblem of its time—offering a visceral, nostalgic driving experience few modern vehicles can match.
