1965 Chevrolet Impala Convertible – A Classic in Regal Red

The 1965 Chevrolet Impala marked the beginning of the fourth generation for this legendary model, bringing a fresh, sculpted look and an increased focus on performance and comfort. It was a record-breaking year for Chevrolet, with the Impala leading the charge as one of the best-selling full-size cars in history. With its clean, flowing lines and powerful V8 options, the '65 Impala became an instant classic, loved by enthusiasts for its combination of style and muscle. This particular Impala Convertible is a stunning example, finished in its original Regal Red with a white convertible top, featuring its matching-numbers 327 V8 under the hood.

A Beautifully Maintained Classic

This Impala Convertible stands out with its eye-catching Regal Red (Code R-1) paint, which has been refreshed while retaining its classic appeal. The white convertible top adds a timeless contrast, giving the car a striking presence on the road. Rolling on staggered 17” and 18” American Racing wheels wrapped in 235/45 and 255/45 tires from 2021, this Impala combines classic styling with a modern stance.

Inside, the red interior (Code 886) stays true to its original specification, featuring a bench seat and a classic column shifter. While the cabin retains its factory layout, an aftermarket two-gauge pod (monitoring oil pressure and water temperature) has been discreetly mounted under the dash for added functionality. The original Delco AM radio, manual windows, and manual seat adjustment all add to the nostalgic charm of this classic cruiser.

Power and Performance

Under the hood, this Impala retains its original, numbers-matching 327 V8, a reliable and well-regarded engine that delivers smooth and confident performance. It breathes through an Edelbrock 1906 carburetor, and the ignition has been upgraded with a Pertronix electronic conversion, ensuring a strong and consistent spark. The engine is paired with a Turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission, providing effortless cruising ability.

The exhaust system features manifolds and a dual-exhaust setup with stock-style quiet mufflers, maintaining the car’s classic tone without excessive volume. Power steering ensures easy maneuverability, while manual front disc brakesprovide stopping power. The factory front sway bar adds stability, making this Impala a comfortable and enjoyable driver at highway speeds.

Solid and Well-Preserved

Beneath its classic body, this Impala has been well cared for, with a solid undercarriage that includes floor pan replacements where necessary. The radiator support and inner fenders remain original and solid, while the suspension and steering components have been inspected and are in good condition. The rear wheel wells have been protected with undercoating, and minor repairs have been made to keep this classic in excellent shape.

A Timeless Open-Top Cruiser

Driving this Impala Convertible is a true pleasure, with smooth acceleration, comfortable cruising at 60 mph, and a confident ride. The manual drum brakes perform as expected, and the classic power steering setup makes for easy handling. Whether it’s the iconic red-on-white color combination, the original matching-numbers 327 V8, or the tasteful enhancements, this Impala represents everything enthusiasts love about 1960s American cruisers.
