1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS / 454 / EFI / Automatic / AC

1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS – A Muscle Icon Reborn with EFI Performance

By 1971, the Chevrolet Chevelle had already cemented itself as a quintessential American muscle car—blending brute-force power, style, and road presence. The second-generation Chevelle, introduced in 1968, had undergone several refinements by the early '70s, including a new front-end treatment for 1971 featuring single headlamps and a more pronounced split grille. The Super Sport (SS) trim, in particular, had become synonymous with street performance and GM muscle at its finest.

This particular 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, recently showcased and sold by PC Classic Cars in Sherman, Texas, encapsulates the spirit of the era with a tasteful balance of originality and modern drivability upgrades. Finished in a vibrant yellow exterior—an eye-catching deviation from its factory “13” Nevada Silver paint—it stands as a confident statement on four wheels. Accented by SS stripes, 15-inch SS wheels wrapped in period-correct BF Goodrich Radial T/As (dated 2023), and a cowl induction hood, the car retains its visual muscle car DNA.

Under the hood lies a roaring 454 cubic inch V8, topped with a Holley Sniper EFI system. While not the original engine, this powerplant—casting number 14015445, from the 1975–1990 era—delivers reliable power with modern fuel injection, an Edelbrock aluminum intake, HEI distributor, and a chrome oil pan for flair. Mated to a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission and backed by a stout 12-bolt rear end, this Chevelle SS is more than ready to deliver classic muscle performance with modern reliability. Supporting components such as headers, Flowmaster mufflers, and full tailpipes ensure it sounds as powerful as it looks.

Its factory A/C system, now updated with an Old Air Products POA valve conversion, adds comfort (though the evaporator core requires replacement). Power steering and power front disc brakes ensure easy maneuverability and solid stopping power, while the transmission cooler and rear air shocks hint at thoughtful updates for cruising and performance. The Comfort Grip steering wheel, column shifter, and stock-style black vinyl bench seat interior (code “704”) preserve the cabin's authentic vintage feel.

The Chevelle’s dash features a retro-style AM/FM stereo and a functional three-gauge pod tucked neatly beneath for oil pressure, voltage, and water temperature monitoring. Even the factory split bench seat and manual controls maintain a raw, analog driving experience true to the early '70s.

Mechanically, the car received a full check at PC Classic Cars, verifying proper operation of lights, wipers, heater, and gauges, with only minor functional notes such as a non-operational horn and a/c. The undercarriage is solid with original inner fenders and factory undercoating, and floor pans and toe boards present as very sound—rare for a car of this age. The overall mechanical integrity, combined with thoughtful enhancements like the mini starter, electric in-tank fuel pump, front sway bar, and transmission oil cooler, speak to a vehicle that was built to be driven and enjoyed.

While originally from Georgia, this Chevelle made its way to Sherman, Texas, to be part of the curated inventory at PC Classic Cars—a dealership known for preserving and celebrating American automotive legends. With 97,968 miles showing on the odometer, this Chevelle’s true mileage is unverified, but it’s clear it has been lovingly maintained and thoughtfully upgraded for both nostalgia and performance.

From its commanding stance to its throaty rumble and modern drivability, this 1971 Chevelle SS stands as a tribute to an era when power ruled the streets, and style was bold and unapologetic.

PC Classic Cars in Sherman, Texas, continues to be a trusted destination for enthusiasts who value heritage, craftsmanship, and automotive passion. Their attention to detail and commitment to preserving classics like this Chevelle make them a standout name in the world of collector cars.
