1990 Chevrolet 454SS / Original 454 V8 / 32K Miles

1990 Chevrolet 454SS – A High-Performance Pickup Icon

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, American automakers were in the midst of a performance renaissance, and Chevrolet made a bold move by introducing a muscle truck that captured the hearts of enthusiasts— the 1990 Chevrolet 454SS. Based on the C1500 ½-ton pickup, the 454SS was designed to deliver high-performance power in a practical, no-nonsense package. With a massive 7.4L (454 cubic-inch) V8 under the hood, this factory-built street machine was the spiritual successor to the muscle cars of the past. It stood apart with its aggressive blacked-out styling, sport suspension, and limited production run, making it a coveted collector’s item today.

A Pristine Example of a Legendary Muscle Truck

This 1990 Chevrolet 454SS, VIN: 1GCDC14N9LZ173312, is an exceptional survivor with only 32,666 actual miles on the odometer. Finished in its original Code 19 black paint, this truck still wears its factory finish, reflecting the care and preservation it has received over the years. Complementing its menacing exterior is the original Code 47L red interior, a striking contrast that further emphasizes its performance pedigree.

Under the hood, this truck retains its numbers-matching 454 V8, a torque-heavy powerhouse that was rated at 230 horsepower and a whopping 385 lb-ft of torque when new. Paired with the durable Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission, the 454SS delivered thrilling acceleration and brute-force performance. The drivetrain remains unmodified, featuring factory fuel injection (FI), stock exhaust manifolds, and an original-style exhaust system, ensuring an authentic driving experience.

Features and Performance

The 454SS was more than just a straight-line performer—it was designed for all-around drivability. This example comes with power steering and power front disc brakes, making it effortless to handle whether cruising on the highway or navigating city streets. The factory Bilstein shocks and front sway bar provide added stability, giving the truck a sportier feel than a typical C1500.

Inside, this 454SS retains all its original amenities, including bucket seats with a center console, tilt steering column, cruise control, and a factory AC Delco AM/FM radio with a cassette player. The factory air conditioning has been converted to R134a and blows cold, ensuring comfort even on hot summer drives. Additional conveniences such as power windows and power locks add to the truck’s ease of use.

This truck rides on its original 15-inch OE 454SS wheels wrapped in fresh BF Goodrich 275/60 tires (dated 2024), maintaining its factory-correct stance and appearance.

Well-Preserved History

A clean Carfax report confirms this truck has had a well-documented life with no reported accidents or damage. The undercarriage remains very solid, with original rockers, floor pans, and inner fenders all in remarkable condition. The engine bay is clean and stock-appearing, with no major issues noted.

This 1990 Chevrolet 454SS is a true time capsule, running and driving just as it did when it left the showroom over three decades ago. With its original drivetrain, low mileage, and unmodified condition, it stands as a testament to Chevrolet’s high-performance legacy.
