1987 Buick Regal T-Type / Turbocharged 3.8L V6 / Cold AC / 11K Original Miles

1987 Buick Regal T-Type — 11K-Mile Time Capsule with Factory Turbo Power

The late 1980s marked a thrilling turning point in American performance cars, and at the heart of that movement stood Buick's turbocharged masterpieces. While the Grand National captured headlines, it was the Regal T-Type that quietly delivered the same fierce performance in a more subtle, sleeper-like package. For enthusiasts who understood what lurked beneath the hood, the T-Type was a hidden gem — and today, it’s an icon in its own right.

A Brief Look at the Legacy

In 1987 — the final year of rear-wheel-drive Regals — Buick's engineers reached peak performance engineering with the 3.8-liter SFI turbocharged V6. This engine, famously boosted and intercooled, was paired with the rock-solid 200R4 automatic transmission, offering refined highway manners and explosive off-the-line torque. The T-Type, especially when ordered with the WE2 Turbo T Package, gave buyers Grand National-level performance with a touch more refinement and less visual flash. These cars were rare even when new, and time has only made them more desirable.

A Regal Rarity in Silver

This particular T-Type is an exceptionally preserved survivor. With just 11,200 actual miles and a clean, documented history verified by CarFax, it's a remarkably original example finished in factory Bright Silver Metallic (Code 12U). Unlike its Grand National sibling, this T-Type wears its performance credentials with quiet confidence — a wolf in elegant clothing. The paint is original and presents beautifully for its age, still showcasing its crisp lines and factory styling.

Rolling on 15-inch OE T-Type wheels wrapped in staggered BFGoodrich Radial T/As (215/65 and 235/60), it retains the purposeful stance of a Buick engineered for more than just grocery runs. The undercarriage remains clean and well-preserved, with factory suspension and steering components intact and showing minimal surface aging — further testament to its pampered life.

Turbocharged Engineering, Numbers-Matching

Under the hood beats the legendary LC2 3.8L SFI Turbocharged V6, complete with intercooler — a true piece of '80s performance history. The engine is numbers-matching and completely original, backed by the dependable 200R4 automatic overdrive transmission. Supporting hardware includes Powermaster hydroboost brakes, FE3 sport suspension, and a G80 limited-slip differential with a 3.42 axle ratio (GU6) — everything needed for confident, exhilarating driving.

The engine bay remains untouched and presents beautifully, all factory components present and functional. Despite its age, this Regal runs and drives like a near-new car — tight on the road, responsive, and engaging.

Comfort Meets Performance Inside

Inside, you'll find the factory 82B Gray interior, complete with a 60/40 split bench seat and column shifter — a rare configuration that adds to its sleeper charm. The original interior remains in excellent condition, with only minor age-related signs like slight headliner sag and some wear on the turn signal lever’s chrome. Features include tilt steering, power windows and locks, a DS remote mirror, and a factory tachometer and boost gauge.

An aftermarket retro-style stereo has been tastefully installed, though the original stereo is included for collectors. There’s also a 2-gauge A-pillar pod to monitor performance more closely.

Every switch and function has been confirmed operational, including cold-blowing AC (converted to R134A), cruise control, horn, wipers, heater, and all lighting systems. Even the original dash clock and power antenna are intact.

A Collector's Dream

With just 11,200 documented miles and a history free of damage or modifications, this T-Type is more than a classic — it's a rolling piece of 1980s American performance history. The factory paint, untouched drivetrain, and near-pristine condition make it an incredibly rare find. It’s the kind of car that turns heads at shows and still surprises at stoplights.
