1970 Ford Mustang Fastback: A Restomod That Pays Homage to a Classic

The 1970 Ford Mustang is one of the most revered years for Ford’s pony car, serving as a bridge between the raw muscle of the 1960s and the evolving designs of the early 1970s. With its aggressive styling, SportsRoof design, and a variety of engine options, the 1970 Mustang became a staple in muscle car history. This particular example, VIN 0F02H130146, offers a delightful blend of originality and modern performance, making it an outstanding example of a Mustang restomod.

A Closer Look at the Build

Originally rolling off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan, on November 4, 1969—three days ahead of schedule—this Mustang was configured as a 351W-powered SportsRoof in a White exterior with Ginger Blaze interior. However, in its current form, the car has undergone an impressive transformation.

It now sports a sleek black exterior and black interior, giving it a menacing, modern look. Beneath the hood lies a 351 Windsor engine (from 1989, with date code 9D28), paired with a robust C6 automatic transmission. Although not the original engine, the 351W provides plenty of grunt, enhanced by headers, dual exhaust, and Flowmaster mufflers for a soundtrack worthy of any muscle car enthusiast's admiration.

Mechanical Highlights

Performance upgrades abound, ensuring that this Mustang not only looks fast but drives exceptionally well. Some of the standout mechanical enhancements include:

  • Power front disc brakes for reliable stopping power.

  • Global West suspension, offering superior handling and stability.

  • A Ford 9-inch rear end with traction bars and a rear sway bar for optimized power delivery.

  • Aluminum radiator with dual electric fans to keep things cool on spirited drives.

  • Bolt-in subframe connectors with a driveshaft loop, providing additional structural rigidity.

The Classic Auto Air Conditioning system ensures that the cabin stays cool on warm days, while the 17" American Racing wheels wrapped in 245/45 and 275/40 tires provide a perfect blend of classic and modern styling.

Comfort Meets Style: Interior Features

Inside, the Mustang blends modern touches with classic elements. The carbon fiber door panels and headliner add a touch of modern flair, while the bucket seats and center console maintain the car’s original charm. An aftermarket gauge cluster and RetroSound radio further enhance the driving experience.

Other interior highlights include:

  • A dash clock that still functions.

  • A tinted glass package for improved aesthetics and UV protection.

  • A digital odometer that reflects the car’s upgraded internals.

Exterior Styling and Additional Features

This Mustang’s aggressive look is further emphasized with hood pins, a hood scoop, rear window louvers, and a spoiler. These elements nod to the performance heritage of the Mustang while also enhancing its street presence. The undercarriage of the car remains very solid and has been undercoated to preserve its condition.

A Classic with Modern Flair

With only 15 miles showing on the odometer (though the actual mileage cannot be verified), this restomod Mustang combines the best of both worlds—classic styling and modern performance. From the upgraded suspension to the sleek blacked-out look, every detail has been carefully considered to make this Mustang stand out in a crowd.

At PC Classic Cars, we celebrate the legacy of American muscle cars, and this 1970 Ford Mustang is no exception. It represents more than just transportation; it embodies an era when cars were built with passion, power, and individuality.
