1967 Ford Mustang GTA / 289 V8 / Automatic / AC

1967 Ford Mustang GTA – A Refined Muscle Icon with Vintage Heartbeat

By 1967, the Ford Mustang had already become a cultural phenomenon, but that year marked a significant evolution in its design and performance capabilities. It was the first major redesign of the original pony car, introducing a broader, more aggressive stance, updated safety features, and, notably, the GTA designation—standing for "Grand Touring Automatic." The GTA combined the high-performance GT package with Ford’s C4 automatic transmission, appealing to enthusiasts who wanted performance without sacrificing comfort. This particular 1967 Mustang GTA embodies all the character and charm of that golden era in American automotive history.

A Real GTA with Period-Correct Power and Character

Wearing VIN 7R01A129811, this Mustang is a genuine GTA, verified by a Marti Report and factory GT equipment. Under its scooped hood lies a period-correct 289 cubic inch V8 engine, paired with the original-style C4 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine, featuring casting number C6AE-6015-C and an October 12, 1967 date code, maintains a classic presentation with the added boost of an Edelbrock carburetor for reliable performance. Dual exhaust with an H-pipe and stock-style mufflers channels that unmistakable small-block growl, creating an authentic driving experience true to its roots.

Striking Exterior and Iconic Details

Although originally finished in Lime Gold (paint code “I”), this Mustang now presents in an eye-catching red exterior with a black vinyl top, giving it a bold, showroom-worthy presence. The color change was well-executed, with matching door jambs and trim that tie the look together. Riding on 14” Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in fresh 215/70R14 BFG radial tires (2024), it balances classic aesthetics with modern road readiness. Subtle vintage touches like hood-mounted turn signal indicators, fog lights operated by a toggle under the dash, and driver-side remote mirror complete its ‘60s muscle car persona.

Luxury Touches Inside the Cabin

This GTA was born with Ford’s “6A” black luxury interior, featuring bucket seats, a center console, and the rare factory overhead console. Although the interior shows light aging, it retains much of its originality and charm. Notable interior features include the Ford AM radio, manual windows and locks, and a center floor shifter. While some convenience features like the dash clock and overhead map lights are currently non-operational, they remain part of the car’s authentic character. The factory air conditioning system, though presently non-functioning and missing a few components (including the idler pulley), is still installed—offering a great opportunity for future restoration to factory specs.

Mechanical Condition and Driving Experience

This Mustang is more than just a pretty face—it’s a great driver. The power steering and power front disc brakesprovide confident handling and stopping power, while the updated suspension and steering components ensure a planted, responsive ride. The undercarriage shows expected patina from age but remains solid, with only minor dents and cosmetic imperfections. The 8” rear end, fully functioning gauges, and charging system reading 14.5 volts speak to a mechanically sorted machine ready for the open road. Even the quirky touches—like the horn relocated to a button on the steering column—add character and story.

A Time Capsule Mustang with True Collector Value

What truly sets this Mustang apart is its documented GTA status, preserved originality, and smart mechanical upgrades. With just 51,452 miles on the odometer (though unverified), it stands as a remarkably well-maintained example. The included Marti Report confirms its authenticity as a real GTA with factory-installed luxury interior and disc brakes—a combination that adds serious collector appeal.
